Abstract
The subject of this paper is the analysis of the business environment in Serbia while the main aim is to identify the driving factors of the small business development. Also, another aim of the paper is to recognize the threats from the external and internal environment which can distort business performance of SMEs. Taking into account the fact that, in recent years, the business environment in Serbia has been improved to some level and in several segments, the authors suggest financial and non-financial measures of institutional support, which can strengthen the SMEs sector in future and make it more competitive.
