Manufacturing industry is regarded as a main engine of economic growth. This paper aims to reveal characteristics of manufacturing industry in Serbia in terms of its technology structure, competitiveness and relative position in a group of countries. Technology structure is presented on the basis of OECD classification of industry based on R&D intensity and competitiveness is introduced using Competitive Industrial Performance (CIP) index as an indicator of relative competitive ability.
