The global crisis of the first decade of the 21st century will produce long-term negative effects on the real and financial sectors of many countries. Caused in the financial sector, it has quickly transferred to the real one, causing a recession in many countries. In this paper we will try to identify the role of the banks in financing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the Višegrad group (V4) countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary) and Serbia. The aim of this paper is to try to answer the main question such as: does banking sector, in these analyzed five countries, support SMEs in the period of global economic crisis? The paper is focused on economic aspects and tries to explain effects and results on the marketSMEs-banking sector relationship.
