Abstract
The main objectives of this paper were to analyse the development of agriculture sector export in the period 2004-2012, to identify key export obstacles in the field and to define the recommendations that may initiate progress in the perspective period. Thanks to the favourable climate conditions, good natural characteristics of the arable land and disposable hydrological resources, Serbia has a great potential for the development of agriculture and export of various agriculture products. However, that potential is not fully exploited due to numerous problems in the agricultural sector that had negative impact on the volume and export effectiveness of Serbian agriculture and food products. Even in these circumstances, Serbian agriculture export share is almost 25% of total export and it is one of the few economic activities that achieved foreign trade surplus in the previous period. In order to ensure the enlargement in exports of agricultural and food products in forthcoming period a stable and stimulating agricultural policy, innovation of product portfolio, shifting to higher processing products, as well as the developing export distribution network and building a national brand and brands for the key agricultural export is necessary.
