Climate change represents the most significant risk globally. The modern world has suffered enormous damage as a result. Important measures have been initiated in support of strengthening actions for disaster risk reduction. Serbia is a country exposed to various risks. The paper presents limitations of Serbian stakeholders, and the insurance market in process of reducing disaster risks. Serbian agriculture, in particular is especially vulnerable. Analysis of data presented in this paper shows that there is a lot of room for improvement. In the first part of the paper importance of natural disasters is highlighted and their impact on people and economy in general is explained. Second part of the paper presents a brief analysis of insurance sistems in Europe and Central Eastern European region, followed by an overview of Serbian Insurance System with special emphasis on non-life insurance. Third part shows catastrophe risk caused by natural disasters in the region and in Serbia. Fourth part explains the role of agricultural insurance, and explains how can agricultural insurance can be used as a new risk management tool in Serbia.
